Ernest Fletcher Little
Ernest Fletcher Little was born in Indiana in 1863. Nothing yet found names his parents or the county he came from. By 1890 he was at Hesperia, the village on the White River between Oceana and Newaygo counties in western Michigan, and there on 12 June 1890 he married Clarissa Mae Herin, called Clara, the eldest daughter of James Edward Herin and Julia Ann Potter, who had come up from Paulding County, Ohio. He was twenty-seven and she nineteen.
They raised their family at Hesperia. Their children were Etoile Intha (born 23 April 1891 at Hesperia, died 1957 at Kalamazoo), who married Claude Bigelow; James Ernest (1892-1951); Averil Lucetta (1895-1974), who married a Craner; Gladys Ivy (1897-1966), who married a Ford; Russell Lodric (1899-1960); a baby boy born and buried in 1907; and Theora Ruth (1908-1980), who married a Hull.
In his later years Ernest followed his son Russell to Flint, and he died there in 1930, aged about sixty-seven. He was taken back to Hesperia and buried in West Hesperia Cemetery under a small arched stone cut with flowers at the corners: ERNEST F. 1863-1930, and beneath it the space that was filled with Clara's name in 1949. A separate low marker nearby reads simply LITTLE.
