Esther Mary Meramble was born at Waterbury, Connecticut, on 18 March 1902. Her maiden name has not been recovered. She had a sister, Lois, who married a Carrington and was living in Waterbury in 1975.

She married Eugene William Meramble, an Army veteran of the First World War from Litchfield, by 1930. That year they lived in Queens. Their son Eugene David was born in New York City on 19 March 1931, and their daughter Esther Ann on 12 July 1935. In 1940 the family lived in Manhattan, where Eugene served as a New York City police officer.

When he retired from the police, they moved back to Waterbury, her home town. In April 1950 she was living there with her husband and her daughter, then 14. Her daughter married Arthur J. Hessburg at Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury in June 1956. Her husband died in May 1964.

In 1974 she left Waterbury and moved to 37 Carriage Hill Road in Colts Neck, New Jersey, near her son's family on Carriage Hill Drive. She died there the next spring, on Saturday 12 April 1975, at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. She was 73. The Daily Register's obituary named her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Hessburg of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; her son, Eugene D. Meramble of Colts Neck; her sister, Mrs. Lois Carrington of Waterbury; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Waitt Funeral Home of Morganville took charge.
