Born 1931
Died 1985
Father: Eugene William Meramble
Mother: Esther Mary Meramble

Eugene David Meramble was born in New York City on 19 March 1931. He was the son of Eugene William Meramble, a New York City police officer, and his wife Esther Mary. In 1940 the family of four lived in Manhattan: Eugene, his parents and his younger sister Esther, born in 1935.

When his father retired from the police, the family moved to Waterbury, Connecticut, his mother's home town. In April 1950 the census found him in Cattaraugus County in western New York, 19 years old, with Waterbury given as his home the year before. He went to St. Bonaventure University at Olean, in the same county, and graduated in 1953.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

He married Jo-Ann Margaret Maloney, who was born on 24 June 1931. They had six children: Jo-Ann, Eugene, Kevin, Kathleen, Colleen and Megan. Eugene was born in July 1957, Kevin in December 1958 and Kathleen in October 1960. Colleen followed in the 1960s, and Megan, the youngest, about 1971.

For 25 years Eugene Meramble worked as a salesman for Guggenheim International of Jersey City. The family lived at Waterbury and then at Matawan, in northern Monmouth County, New Jersey. About 1973 they moved to Carriage Hill Drive in Colts Neck, a few miles inland from Red Bank. His widowed mother came to live on the same road in 1974 and died there the next spring.

In Colts Neck he was active in local Republican politics and served as a Republican county committeeman, the elected party officer for his voting district. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Newman Council of Matawan, to the Moose Lodge at South River and to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Colts Neck. In February 1975 he and his wife sat at the table of Mr. and Mrs. John Wiedenmann at the Sweetheart Ball of the Woman's Club of Colts Neck, held that year at the Battleground Country Club in Manalapan.

Eugene David Meramble died on Friday, 11 January 1985, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. He was 53. His obituary ran in the Daily Register of Shrewsbury two days later. It named his wife, Jo-Ann Maloney Meramble; his sons Eugene, of Red Bank, and Kevin, at home; his daughters Jo-Ann Thompson, Colleen Meramble and Megan Meramble, all at home, and Kathleen Heutele of Colts Neck; his sister Esther Hessburg of Waverly, Iowa; and four grandchildren. The Waitt Funeral Home of Marlboro took charge.

He was buried at All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury, Connecticut. His wife's name and birth date were cut beside his on the stone.
