Ethridge Lock Wright was born on 12 March 1918 in Coffee County, Georgia.

On 26 September 1942 he was inducted into the United States Army at Fort McPherson in Atlanta as a selectee, a drafted man, enlisted for the duration of the war and six months. His card gives his home as Coffee County, his trade as a general farmer, his schooling as grammar school, and his status as single with dependents. He left the Army a private first class. That rank and the war are cast on the bronze marker over his grave.

He married Grace Jones, thirteen years younger than he was. Their first child, Lillie Mae, was born on 29 March 1947. Etheridge Lock Jr. followed on 2 September 1948 and Wendel on 18 March 1952, at Nicholls. Ann was born in 1957 and died in 1978. Clarence, Judy and Sally complete the family named in the children's obituaries; Wendel's obituary in 2016 also names a sister Wendy.

He was known as E.L. Wright. He died on 28 December 1996, aged seventy-eight, and was buried at Satilla Memorial Gardens. Grace lived until 2009 and was buried beside him.
