Lillie Mae Wright
Lillie Mae Wright was born on 29 March 1947 in Coffee County, Georgia, around Douglas, the county seat. She was the eldest child of Ethridge Lock Wright, a Coffee County man who had served in the Army in the Second World War, and Grace Jones, who was sixteen when Lillie was born.
Her brothers and sisters, by the family's obituaries, were Etheridge Lock Jr., born 1948; Wendel, born 1952 at Nicholls; Clarence; Judy; Sally; and Ann, born 1957, who died in 1978 at about twenty-one.
With Edward Harper, a Coffee County man whose family also spent years at Dade City, Florida, she had a daughter, Julia, born in 1966 at Homerville in Clinch County, and a son, Edward Tate, born in Coffee County on 24 August 1968. Her obituary names a third Harper son, Jimmy W. Edward died in October 1971 at twenty-four.
Lillie raised six children in all. Her obituary names three daughters, Sonya, Julia and Kathie, and three sons, Tate Harper, Jimmy W. Harper and Earl O'Steen. She had fifteen grandchildren by 1999. At her death she was married to Herman Rollins and living on Hickory Lane at Nicholls, a small town in the south of Coffee County. The obituary calls her a homemaker.
She died on 2 July 1999 at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta after a brief illness. She was fifty-two. Her mother and her brothers and sisters were all still living except Ann. The funeral was held two days later, on the Fourth of July, at Franklin Holiness Baptist Church near Douglas, and she was buried in its churchyard, the same ground where Edward Harper had lain since 1971.
