Faith Clarke
Faith Clarke was the wife of Thurston Clarke of the parish of St Margaret, Ipswich, in Suffolk. They were married by about 1617, and their eldest child, Faith, was born about 1618.
Her other children were baptised at St Margaret's. Frances was baptised on 28 March 1619 and buried on 4 May. Mary was born in 1622 and died at a month old. Abigail was baptised on 10 April 1625 and Thurston on 12 August 1627. A son Henry followed.
In April 1634 her husband sailed for New England on the Francis of Ipswich, with their daughter Faith, then fifteen. She was not on the ship's list. Her daughter Abigail was buried at St Margaret's on 29 January 1636/7, and she probably crossed after that.
In New England the family settled in the Plymouth Colony. Her daughter Faith married Edward Doty, a Mayflower passenger, in January 1634/5.
Her husband died in the snow in December 1661. On 4 March 1661/2 the court made her administratrix of his estate. She died within the next fifteen months. On 1 June 1663 her own estate was divided among her three surviving children: her daughter Faith Doty and her sons Henry and Thurston Clarke. The two sons were described as "imbeciles", in the old sense of people unable to manage their own affairs, and were placed under guardians.
