Faith Clarke was born about 1618, the eldest child of Thurston Clarke and his wife Faith. The family lived in the parish of St Margaret, Ipswich, in Suffolk, where her younger brothers and sisters were baptised from 1619. When she was about four her baby sister Mary died, and a laborer's wife was sentenced to hang for killing the child by witchcraft.

At the end of April 1634 she sailed from Ipswich for New England with her father on the Francis. The list enters her as "Fayth Clearke, 15". Her mother stayed behind for a time with the younger children.

The following January, on 6 January 1634/5, she married Edward Doty at Plymouth. He had come over on the Mayflower as a servant of Stephen Hopkins. The court record reads: "January 6, 1634. Edward Doten and Fayth Clarke wer maried."

The Plymouth clerk wrote her father's name as Tristram. A court order of those years sent him out with her husband: "Edward Dotey and Tristram Clark, his father in law, are to take Josiah Winslow ... and to view a pcell of land."

She was Edward's wife for twenty years, and his only known wife. Their children included Edward, Joseph, born at the end of April 1651, and Mary, born about 1655.

Edward died on 23 August 1655. His will gave her his house and his lands and meadows at Plymouth. It gave the land he had bought at Coaksett, in old Dartmouth, to his sons. On 5 March 1655/6 she went before the court and gave up her own claim in that land to her children.

Her father froze to death in the snow between Plymouth and Duxbury in December 1661. Her mother died before 1 June 1663, when her estate was divided among Faith Doty and her brothers Henry and Thurston Clarke. The two brothers were placed under guardians.

On 14 March 1666 she married John Phillips. The Plymouth register reads: "John Phillips married to Faith Dotey the 14 of March, 1666." She made her will as Faith Phillips of Marshfield on 12 December 1675. She was buried at Marshfield on 21 December 1675.
