Frances Delia Hall
Frances Delia Hall, called Fanny, was born on 26 May 1835 at Vergennes, Vermont. She was the fifth of ten children of Dr. Atherton Hall, a country physician, and Mehitable Clark, the daughter of Barnabas Clark of Westminster, Vermont. Her father had begun practice at Ludlow, moved to Vergennes by 1832, and was at Whitehall, New York, at the foot of Lake Champlain, by 1841. Frances grew up there. A sister and two brothers died young, Sarah at fifteen in 1854.
On her twenty-fourth birthday, 26 May 1859, she married Albert Moore Hoyt, a farmer of Castleton, Vermont, just across the state line from Whitehall. Her first child, Mary Wood Hoyt, was born at Whitehall on 3 January 1861. Ida Clark Hoyt, who carried her mother's family name, followed at Castleton on 28 April 1865, then George Hall Hoyt on 20 June 1868 and Edward Albert Hoyt on 20 September 1871. Her youngest, John, was born at Whitehall on 4 April 1874. Her mother died in 1875 and her father at Whitehall in 1881.
The family was at Castleton in 1870 and in New York City by 1900, where George went into the leather trade. Albert died on 26 March 1899. Frances died on 2 February 1917 at Greenwich, Connecticut, and was buried with her husband in Hillside Cemetery at Castleton. The Rutland Daily Herald carried her obituary on 6 February 1917.
