Frances Nesbitt
Frances Nesbitt was a daughter of Major William Nesbitt of Drumalee in County Cavan, who was High Sheriff in 1709. She had one brother, William, and three sisters. One sister married Richard Ellis, another was Jane, and Abigail married Alexander Seton. Her father died about 1744.
She married Mathew Young of Lahard, in the parish of Killeshandra, a son of Richard Young of Drumgoon and a lieutenant in Newburgh's Dragoons in 1740. Burke's Landed Gentry calls her "Miss Nesbit". Her name and family come from H. B. Swanzy's notes on the County Cavan militia and army lists, printed in Notes and Queries in 1924 and 1925.
She had thirteen children, and six of them died young. Two sons and five daughters grew up. James, of Lahard, was baptized at Killeshandra in 1737 and Arthur in 1747. Jane, Elizabeth, Catherine, Abigail and Dorothy all married between 1753 and 1764. Elizabeth married her first cousin, the Rev. William Brooke, Rector of Granard, in 1755, and their daughter Honor married the traveller Eyles Irwin.
Her own dates are not recorded.
