Frances Wilson
Frances Wilson, called Franky, was born on 8 April 1775. The date is on her gravestone. Her parents and her birthplace are not known.
She married Isaac Gonce, a Delaware man born in 1770. Isaac was in New Castle County, Delaware, from 1790 to 1794, and their eldest child, Margaret, was born in 1793, so they probably married there. They had eight daughters and two sons, most born in Hawkins County, Tennessee.
In about 1818 the family moved to the Crow Creek valley of Jackson County, Alabama. There she belonged to the Crow Creek church, the Mount Gilead Primitive Baptist Church at Pleasant Grove.
She died on 18 July 1842 and was buried in the church cemetery. Her grave is a stone box, a rectangular enclosure of fitted stone slabs, with a pointed limestone headstone set into one end. It reads "IN MEMORY OF FRANKY GONCE DEPARTED THIS LIFE JULY 18", and below that "AND" and "APRIL", with the rest worn away. A copy of the cemetery's stones made between 1948 and 1967 gives her dates in full, 8 April 1775 and 18 July 1842, and adds, "She was Frances Wilson." Isaac was buried beside her in 1853, in a stone box of his own. The two graves stand together in the woods.
