Francis Wyman was baptized at Westmill in Hertfordshire on 24 February 1619/20. He was the second son of Francis Wyman, a farmer of the parish, and Elizabeth Richardson. His mother was buried at Westmill in June 1630, when he was ten, and his baby brother William four weeks later. His father married again.

His mother's brothers Ezekiel, Samuel and Thomas Richardson went to Massachusetts in the 1630s. Francis and his younger brother John followed them. By December 1640 the brothers were at the new town of Woburn, and they stayed there for the rest of their lives.

He married Judith Pierce on 30 January 1644/5. On 2 October 1650 he married Abigail Reed, whose parents had brought her over in the Defence in 1635. They had twelve children between 1652 and 1679. The first was a daughter Judith, who died at three months, and the last was another Judith, born 15 January 1679.

He was a tanner, with his dwelling and his tanning works on Wyman's Lane. He was a selectman in 1674 and 1675. He was "partial to the sentiments of the Baptists." He and his brother John were, with one exception, the largest landholders in Woburn.

His father died at Westmill in 1658. His will left "two sons, Francis and John Wyman, who are beyond the sea," ten pounds apiece, "to be paid to them if they be in want and come over to demand the same." Neither of them ever went back for it.

His household held enslaved people. On 1 November 1685 a daughter, Hannah, was born to Joanna, entered in the town book as "negro servant to Francis Wyman."

In October 1684 Henry Somers sued "Francis Wyman, attorney to his mother-in-law, Mabel Somers," over a quarter's board of the old woman. Francis was acting for Abigail's mother, who lived until 1690.

He died on 28 November 1699 and was buried in the First Burial Ground at Woburn. His stone says he was about eighty two. He was seventy nine.
