Frieda Wilhelmina Charlotte Snook

Frieda Wilhelmina Charlotte Snook was born on 11 November 1907 at Topeka, Kansas, the youngest of the five children of Harland Burnside Snook, a Marylander, and Rosa Anna O'Dell, from Ohio. Her two German given names came from her mother's side; Rosa's mother was a Schroeder. The 1920 census found her, twelve, at home in Topeka with her parents and her brothers Charles and Wilbur.

She married Dewey Coleman, a Georgia-born veteran ten years older, and their daughter Wilma Charlotte was born at Oklahoma City on 3 September 1926, when Frieda was eighteen. They came back to Topeka, where John Harland was born in July 1928, and in 1930 the young family was living with her parents. Dewey died in January 1957, and his stone at Memorial Park was cut with her name and birth year beside his, ready for her.

She did not use it. In 1974, at sixty-six, she married Leslie Ward Dunham, a widower of seventy-eight, and when she died on 7 May 1993, aged eighty-five, she was buried as Frieda C. Dunham at Park Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri, under a rose-granite stone with an open book. The Topeka stone still reads "Frieda 1907" with no closing date. Her daughter's 2013 obituary named her Frieda Snook Coleman.
