George Lawrence
George Lawrence was born in 1637. He lived at Watertown, Massachusetts. His parents are not known. After John Lawrence of Watertown moved his family to Groton, all the Lawrences of Watertown, Waltham and Weston descended from George.
On 29 September 1657 he married Elizabeth Crispe, the eldest daughter of Benjamin Crispe, a Watertown mason. They had eleven children. Elizabeth was born in January 1658/9 and married Thomas Whitney. Judith was born on 12 May 1660 and married John Stearns about 1681. Hannah followed in 1661/2, then John in 1664, and the twins Benjamin and Daniel on 2 May 1666. George came in 1668, then Sarah, who married Thomas Rider, and Mary in 1671, who married John Earl of Boston. Martha married John Dix. Grace was born in 1680.
Elizabeth died on 28 May 1681. On 16 August 1691 he married a second Elizabeth, Elizabeth Holland, perhaps the widow of Joseph Holland. They had Joseph, and the twins Rachel and Patience in 1694.
On 3 November 1691 the court excused him from serving as constable, "in that he could not read a word." In 1697/8 he and his wife conveyed ten acres at Watertown to the Rev. John Emerson of Charlestown, who at once assigned them to his twin sons Benjamin and Daniel. He made his will in 1707 and died on 21 March 1708/9, "an aged man." His inventory came to 171 pounds, 5 shillings and 6 pence.
