Judith Lawrence was born at Watertown, Massachusetts, on 12 May 1660. She was the second of the eleven children of George Lawrence and his first wife, Elizabeth Crispe. Her father could not read a word, and in 1691 the court excused him from serving as constable for that reason. When she was fourteen her brother John, aged ten, was killed by a load of bricks.
About 1681 she married John Stearns of Watertown, a housewright, the son of Charles Stearns and Rebecca Gibson. Her mother died in May 1681. The young couple lived within the limits of what became Lexington. Their first child, Rebecca, was entered at Watertown.
Her five eldest children were baptized together on 22 June 1690 by the Rev. John Bailey of Watertown, and seven more on 11 May 1710. One of her sons, John, married Deliverance Bigelow and was a captain at Worcester.
She died before 2 April 1713, when her husband married Mary Norcross.
