George Walker was born on 3 June 1800 in Tennessee. The date is cut on his gravestone, and both the 1850 and 1860 censuses give Tennessee as his birthplace. His memorial names his parents as Jesse Walker and Delilah, and a lineage application approved in 2010 traces the same descent. In 1850 an old millwright named Jesse Walker and his wife Delila lived in the house next to his.

He married Anna Butler before 1820. She was a Georgia woman, two years older than he was. Their children were born over about twenty years, from West in November 1821 to Rebecca Ann about 1842. Their daughter Glapha married Thomas R. Edgemon in Meigs County on 24 July 1842, by her memorial, and died in April 1853 at 28.

George was a Baptist preacher. In the summer of 1832 Capt. George Walker, a Revolutionary War militia officer of 87 who had lived in Bledsoe County since 1807, applied for a federal pension. Applicants had to bring a clergyman and a neighbor to swear to their character and to the common belief that they had served. The clerk noted that a George Walker, a clergyman from Marion County, gave that affidavit, with Congressman James Standifer, the attorney James A. Whiteside and the Pikeville merchant John Bridgmon. The clergyman was probably this George, then 32.

On 3 September 1850 the assistant marshal for the Eastern District of Bledsoe County reached dwelling 131. He wrote down George Walker, 50, a Baptist clergyman with land worth $1,600. With him were Anah, 51, born in Georgia, and three children born in Tennessee: Charlotta, 18, Philip A., 13, and Rebecca A., 7. Next door, at dwelling 132, lived Jesse Walker, 80, a mill right born in North Carolina, and Delila, 76. Jeremiah Walker, 33, a farmer with a wife and three children, lived three doors on.

By 1860 the family lived in the Fourth District of Sequatchie County, whose post office was Dunlap. Sequatchie was a new county, organized in 1857 along the valley of the Sequatchie River. The census taker, S. C. Stone, came to the house on 18 June 1860. He wrote George Walker, 60, as a clergyman, with land worth $1,500 and personal property worth $2,850. Anna, 61, born in Georgia, was a midwife. Rebecca Walker, 18, was still at home. Susan Robison, 24, George Roberson, 9, and Jane Arkanson, 6, lived with them. Two days earlier the same man had written down George W. Walker, 32, a farmer, with his wife Frances and their two small sons, four pages back in the same district.

George died on 17 December 1868, by his gravestone; his memorial gives 10 December, at Dunlap. Anna died a month later, on 19 January 1869. They lie under one double stone in the Thans Chapel Cemetery at Dunlap. His name is on the left panel and hers, Anna Butler Walker, on the right, with "Father" and "Mother" cut across the base.

Their youngest daughter, Rebecca Ann, married Francis Philps in Sequatchie County on 26 September 1860, three months after the census taker found her at home. She went west with him to Falls County, Texas, where she was living with F. M. Phelps in 1910. She died a widow at Chilton on 15 March 1924, aged 81, and her death certificate names her father as Geo Walker.
