George Washington Crocker
George Washington Crocker was born in 1857. Around 1894 he married Lucy Elzadie Wade, a Missouri girl almost twenty years younger than he was. They were among the families who came into the new Oklahoma Territory in its first years.
In the census of 1900 George and Lucy were living in Norman Township of Cleveland County, Oklahoma Territory, the country around the new university town of Norman. They had been married six years and had three small children: Bernice, Samuel and Aubrey.
By 1910 the family had moved west to Rainy Township in Washita County. The house then held Alfred, Bernice, Franklin, Lucy, Abner, Aubrey and Mary. A son, James Allen, was born that year, and the last child, Nell Ellen, called Nellie, in April 1915 at Gotebo in Kiowa County, when George was fifty seven.
The Crockers stayed in the Gotebo country for the rest of George's life. In 1930 he was recorded as G. W. Crocker in Harrison Township of Kiowa County, past seventy, with Lucy, Nellie and several grown children still at home. His granddaughter Zada Nell Limerick was born at Gotebo the next year.
George died in 1939 and was buried in Gotebo Cemetery under a red granite stone reading "George W. Crocker, 1857, 1939." Lucy was buried beside him in 1946.
