Harvey Burns
Harvey Burns died at Point Pleasant on 8 May 1913, of paralysis, aged eighty nine years five months and twenty three days, which puts his birth in about November 1823. The register enters him twice on the same line block, once as Burns Harry, labourer, and once as Burns Harvey, retired, both married, both the same day and the same cause. One man, two clerks.
He is the father on the Mason County birth line of Daniel W. Burns, born 25 September 1873 in Arbuckle District, where the register gives his trade as Labor and records that the information was furnished by the father, which is to say by him. The 1890 census of Union veterans finds him in Arbuckle District, so he had served. In 1900 he was in Cooper District on the south side, twenty seven years married to Elizabeth J., with three daughters at home.
He was about fifty when he married a woman of nineteen, so 1873 was probably not his first marriage. Who a first wife was, and who his parents were, is not known: he died four years before West Virginia put the parents column back on the death form.
