Hendrik Tummers
Baptised at the Pancratius church in Munstergeleen on 12 January 1718, the son of Gobbel Timmers and Mechtildis Radermechers, with a Henricus Timmers standing godfather. His is the only baptism of a Henricus Tummers in the entire indexed run of that parish.
He and Anna Vrolings had four children christened in the same church between 1751 and 1757, and the clerk spelled his name a different way almost every time: Hindricus at the twins' baptism, Hendricus three years later, Henricus in 1757, and Henri when a registrar working under the French system came to write down his son's death in 1812.
The twins came first. On 1 March 1751 Joannes and Gobbel were baptised together, and the priest did not treat them as one event. Each boy has his own entry, his own godparents and a note identifying him as the twin of the other, which is a small courtesy of record keeping that gave the second child a name he would otherwise have lost. Gabriel followed on 19 January 1754 and a daughter, Maria Gertrudis, on 29 August 1757. Gobbel and Gabriel are one name, the dialect form and the Latin form, and it was his own father's.
His marriage is the one document missing. It has been looked for hard and is not in the indexed books: the Munstergeleen church marriage register runs continuously through the years he must have married and does not hold it, and neither does any other parish in the province under any spelling of his wife's surname. He buried her on 14 May 1786 and outlived her by four years, dying on 3 July 1790 and being buried two days after that.
