Henry Register Dilley
Henry Register Dilley was born on 25 May 1847 at Huntersville, in Pocahontas County in the mountains of what became West Virginia in 1863. His parents were John Dilley and Naomi McNeill.
His obituary says only that "he came west in early days." On 26 May 1873 he married Nancy Cozad. Their son Isaac was born in Page County, Iowa, in 1875, and by about 1875 Henry had settled at Red Oak, in Montgomery County, where he farmed for fifty years. He and Nancy had six children, and three died before him.
He was a Methodist for many years. Three years before his death he had a paralytic stroke, and after that he was in feeble health. He died at two in the morning of 13 July 1925 at his home, 107 Corning Street, Red Oak. He was seventy eight. The Red Oak Express called him "an old and highly respected citizen of Red Oak." He left his wife, three children, Isaac L. Dilley of Red Oak, Bert L. Dilley of Villisca and Mrs. Lester Gordon of Red Oak, and four brothers still living in Virginia. Rev. H. R. Wilkinson of the Methodist church held the funeral at the house, and he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
