Hugh W. Glasscock was born on 14 July 1888, the son of Jonathon Coleman Glasscock and Mary Alice Keefover. The family was at Arnettsville in Monongalia County, on the West Fork above Fairmont, and moved down into the Fairmont district of Marion County, where he spent the rest of his life.
He married Grace Lea Merrifield of Fairmont. Their daughter Mary Elizabeth was born about 1910 and married Chauncey Leonard in Marion County in 1928. A son Hugh junior followed in 1920.
He died on 2 October 1964, aged seventy six, and was buried at Bellview in Marion County. His will was proved there the same year.
In the 1900 census the household at Monongalia holds Josephus C. Glasscock, forty one, and Mary E., thirty six, with Hugh at eleven among the children. Mary E.'s own line says she had been married five years and had borne one child, so she is his stepmother. His mother, Mary Alice Keefover, died in June 1893, and his death certificate names her.
