Ida Augusta Conklin
Ida Augusta Darling, known as Gussie, was born at Smithtown on 19 February 1860, the daughter of William Cornell Darling (1830-1911) and Percillia Cornelia White Darling (1839-1916). Her obituary names her as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Cornell Darling. Her siblings included Isadora Darling Gould, Mary Alice "Mame" Darling Robinson, Harry S. Darling and Lillian Grace Darling Palow.
She married Warren William Conklin, who later managed the farm at Kings Park State Hospital. They had eight children between 1879 and 1898: Wilford, Ivison, Jesse, Florence, Lillian Adella, Mary Elizabeth, Ida Mae and Martha. Their son Wilford died in 1890, aged about eleven. Their daughter Lillian died in 1933, aged 39.
Ida was widowed in 1930. She died at Kings Park on Saturday 26 June 1948, aged 88. Her funeral was held at the Methodist church in Kings Park on the Wednesday afternoon, 30 June, and she was buried in Landing Cemetery at Smithtown, beside her husband. The stone calls her his "BELOVED WIFE". The obituary listed five sons, among them Ivison, Jesse and Warren, living at Kings Park and Brooklyn, and three daughters: Ida Fairchild of Greenlawn, Florence Bischoff of Roscoe, New York, and Martha Conway of Kings Park.
