Irma Moreau was born at Marksville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, on 31 March 1867 by her memorial. The 1900 census gives January 1860 instead, which would make her 23 rather than 16 when she married. Moreau, like Bordelon, is one of the old French surnames of the parish.

On 18 October 1883 she married Emile E. Bordelon of Marksville. Her first child, Gervais, was born in March 1884, and by June 1900 there were eight children in the house in Marksville town: Gervais, Albert, Cecile, Robert, Rosa, Annette, Samuel and Emma. George Emile followed in 1904 and Paul Emile in 1906. Her memorial calls her the mother of eleven children.

Her daughter Cecile married George A. Sherman in 1908, and her granddaughter Sable Mary Sherman was born in Marksville in 1913. Emile died in November 1940. Irma lived twelve more years and died at Marksville on 1 December 1952, aged 85. She was buried in plot 1694 of Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, beside Emile, under a plain concrete cross with her name scratched into the wet cement by hand: "MRS EMILE E BORDELON".
