Isaac Edison Smith
Isaac Edison Smith was born on 6 April 1843 in what is now West Virginia. His death certificate names his parents as Henry Smith and Elisabeth Ringer, both born in West Virginia. He served in the Civil War with Company H of the 7th West Virginia Cavalry, a Union regiment, and the company and regiment are carved on his gravestone.
In 1868 he married Delia Scott in Monongalia County. Her full name was Cordelia Ann Scott, as their daughter's death entry gives it. Their daughter Sarah Elma was born on 16 July 1877, and another daughter, Rosa Belle, in 1878. When Elma married Raymond R. Rice at Morgantown in 1895, the licence named her parent as Isaac Smith.
Isaac farmed at Bull Run, in the Valley District of Preston County. Isaac died at Bull Run of apoplexy, a stroke, on 12 January 1926, aged 82 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was still married. Cole Radabaugh of Masontown, Elma's second husband, gave the particulars, and the Masontown undertaker A. G. Meek buried him at Mount Zion Cemetery on 15 January 1926. His stone at Mount Zion also carries the names of his granddaughter Mary R. Turner and her husband C. E. Turner.
