Isaac Farwell

Isaac Farwell was born in New Hampshire on 14 May 1804 and died at Arena, on the Wisconsin River, on 7 November 1883, seventy-nine years old and nearly forty of them spent in the same town.

He was one of the men who made it. The county history published two years before his death lists him twice among the settlers of Arena, once among those on the ground by 1845 and again among the arrivals of the spring after, which is what happens when a man comes out to look at the country, goes back for his family, and returns with them. He was still holding town office eighteen years later, assessor for 1863.

The children's birthplaces are the family's itinerary written down without anyone meaning to write it. His eldest, Luke, was born in Niagara County, New York, about 1829. The next was born in Ohio in 1836 and the next in Illinois in 1839. By 1850 the census found Isaac at Arena with his wife Mahala, a son of fourteen and a daughter of eleven. Mahala died in 1874 and he outlived her by nine years. Both are buried at Arena.
