Iver Torbjørnsen
Farmer at Lund in Skiptvet in Østfold, born about 1776. The census of February 1801 has him at twenty-five as Huusbonde of the first household on the farm, entered Bonde og gaardbeboer, with his wife Marthe Hansdatter, twenty-six, two small daughters and two servants. His father Torbiørn Torkildsen, seventy-three, was living in the second household on the same farm with his own wife, which is the ordinary Norwegian arrangement of a holding passing to the son while the old couple stay on it.
Six children of his by Marthe are on record between about 1798 and 1810: Berthe, Ingeborg, a Torkild born in April 1802, Maria in October 1804, a second Torkild born 15 October 1807, and Hans in November 1810. The second Torkild is the Thorkel Iversen who fathered the Iver who went to Minnesota and became Iver Torkelson Lund.
His father was buried from Lund in August 1810 and Marthe that December, a week after Hans was christened. By October 1814 a son Ole was baptised to him at Lund by a second wife, Anne Hogensdatter. He is named as the groom's father when Torkil married in December 1840, so he was living or at least remembered then. An Iver Thorbjørnsen aged 77 was buried at Skiptvet on 30 August 1853, almost certainly him, though the entry names no farm. No record of his baptism is known.
