Jabez Daily Osman was born on 2 February 1818 in Adams County, Ohio. His death certificate names his parents as John Osman and Kyiah Carson. By the memorial written for her, his mother died about 1820, when he was two, and his father married again.

He married Mariah Grooms, who was born the same year he was, a daughter of the large Grooms family of Adams County. They farmed in Monroe Township, on Gift Ridge, and had eleven children. Among them were Mary Ellen (1838), who married Daniel Bayless of West Union, William Jabez (1841), Samantha (1843), Harriett (1847), Alice Keziah (1854) and Adeline (1859). Mariah died on 10 November 1892.

Jabez lived on for almost twenty years as a widower. He died on a Monday evening in January 1912, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Naaman Armstrong on the old family place on Gift Ridge. His funeral was held at Quinn's Chapel on the Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. Zerier of Manchester, and he was buried in the chapel cemetery. His small stone there is cut JABES OSMAN, and Mariah's beside it reads MARIAH OSMAN.
