Jacob Cohen
Jacob Cohen was born in November 1889, the second child of Joseph Cohen and Eva Selzer. His parents told the census taker of 1900 that he was born in Poland, and he was a few months old when the family crossed in 1890. He himself said Manhattan when he married, which is the ordinary answer of a man who arrived too young to remember anything else.
He was ten in 1900 and twenty in 1910, at 452 West 38th Street both times, and he moved with the family to Williamsburg. On 14 January 1917, aged twenty six and a poultry dealer, he married Anna Ferber at her parents' house, 262 South 4th Street, a hundred doors along the street from his own at 363. She was nineteen, the daughter of Aaron Ferber and Yette Hand. Shea Levine performed it and an Abraham Cohen signed as a witness.
On that certificate his surname is written Kohn, the same name that appears as Cohn and Cohen in his family's other records.
