James Benedict
James Benedict was born at Southold on Long Island and came with his parents through Hassamamac, Huntington and Jamaica to Norwalk in Connecticut, where the whole family finally settled and where all of them married. He married Sarah Gregory there on 10 May 1676. She was born on 3 December 1652, daughter of John and Sarah Gregory of Norwalk, and her sister Phoebe had married his brother John six years earlier.
He was one of the eight men who bought and settled Danbury. He sold his Norwalk property on 26 March 1691 and moved to it. His son James, born in 1685, is recorded as the first white male child born in that town.
His wife's father made a will at Norwalk on 15 August 1689, left his estate to his wife Sarah, and named John and James Benedict as his sons in law. Thomas Benedict, their father, witnessed it. The widow Sarah named them the same way in an instrument of 9 October that year. Two brothers married two sisters, and one father witnessed the other's will.
He married again before March 1707/8 to another Sarah, daughter of Robert Porter and widow of Abraham Andrus. He was still alive in August 1717, when he deeded property.
