James Duffy Vinson

1872-1962 · Alabama
Born 1872, Alabama
Died 1962
Children include Idus

James Duffy Vinson was born in Alabama in 1872. He married Maggie Lyons, also from Alabama, and they raised a large family. A grave memorial built from family knowledge lists their children as Hillard Hearly (1902), Ida Leona (1904), James Gaither (1907), Idus G. (1915), Etter Mae, who died as a baby in 1918, and Velma I. (1919).

In May 1950 James D. Vinson was 77 and his wife Maggie 70. They lived on their own in Itawamba County, Mississippi, eight houses from their son Idus, who farmed there with his wife Audrey and five grandchildren. When Idus died in 1994, his obituary named two surviving sisters, Velma Swindle and Ida Hicks, the same daughters the family memorial gives.

James died on 14 December 1962 at Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, aged about 90. Maggie died the next year. They lie together at Liberty Grove Cemetery under one stone, "James D., 1872, 1962" and "Maggie, 1879, 1963," with the verse "The hours part us but they bring us together again."
