James McFail
James McFail was born in North Carolina. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and in the Indian wars. He married a woman named Judith, and their older children were born in the Barnwell District of South Carolina, Nancy in 1786 and Catherine in 1789. The family later settled at Taylors Creek, in Liberty County, Georgia.
Two of his daughters married two sons of his neighbor Robert Hendry. Nancy married William Hendry on 7 December 1807, and Catherine married John Hendry on 13 December 1808. James and Judith had at least nine children: Nancy, Eli, Catherine, Sarah, Judith, Zilpha, Isaac, Alexander and Jacob.
James McFail died in Liberty County between 1817 and 1820. He was buried at the old Baptist church cemetery at Taylors Creek, about a quarter of a mile east of the Methodist church cemetery. About 1825 his widow moved with her younger children and the families of her two Hendry sons-in-law to Lowndes County, Georgia. As the widow of a Revolutionary soldier she later drew land in the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832. The Daughters of the American Revolution accept him as a patriot, under the spelling James McFall, on the strength of that draw.
