Jeanne Chement
Jeanne Chement was born about 1760 and married Jean François Chevalier, a landholder and cultivator at Soing, a village on the Saône in the Haute-Saône, in eastern France. Their son Jean François was born about 1778.
She died in her house at Soing at nine in the evening on 24 January 1806, aged forty-five. The next day her husband went to the mayor, Edme Delbrassine, to report the death. Two of her nephews went with him: Jean François Boulet, thirty-two, who lived at Soing, and Jean François Monnot, a cultivator of Soing in his thirties. Her husband and both nephews signed the entry.
A year later, when her son married Claudine Duffourg at Neuvelle-lès-la-Charité on 23 February 1807, the mayor there wrote that the groom was the son "of the late Jeanne Chement, died at Soing," as shown by the death certificate delivered by the mayor of Soing. French law asked for that proof before a marriage could go ahead without a parent's consent.
