Jemima Morris was born about 1765 in Chester County, South Carolina. About 1785 she married Thomas Franklin, and over the next twenty-two years she bore about eleven children, from Henry in 1786 to James Benjamin in 1807. Her daughter Ailcy was born in 1806.
Thomas died without a will in 1808, in Richland District near Columbia. Jemima and her eldest son Henry applied together for the administration of his estate. The ordinary granted them letters on 2 July 1808, "in whose fidelity in this behalf I very much confide," and she, Henry and Robert Duke signed the administrators' bond.
Widowed at about forty-three, she was still in Richland District in 1810, at the head of a household of thirteen. Within a few years she moved west with the family, first to Louisiana, where her son Henry's daughter Jemima was born in 1814, and then to Mississippi. In Louisiana she married again. By February 1825 she was the wife of Philip Magee, and when her daughter Ailcy married Thomas Cryer in St. Tammany Parish that month, Jemima Magee and Philip Magee signed the consent. Her son Henry Franklin was a justice of the peace in Rankin County, Mississippi, in the early 1830s, where her daughter Ailcy and Ailcy's husband Thomas Cryer were raising their children in the same years. Her memorial gives her death as 1835, in Rankin County.
