Job Tyler

Job Tyler was born in Rowley Village, Massachusetts, on 16 December 1675. Rowley Village was the farming district of Rowley that became the town of Boxford. He was a son of Moses Tyler and Prudence Blake. His life is set out in Willard Brigham's Tyler Genealogy (1912).

He married Margaret Bradstreet of Andover, a daughter of Col. Dudley Bradstreet and Ann (Wood) Price. Through her father she was a granddaughter of Gov. Simon Bradstreet and the poet Anne Bradstreet. "All his children were by the first marriage": Dudley in 1700, William in 1701, Margaret in 1703, Job in 1705, Asa in 1708 and Hannah in 1710.

He held town office at Boxford. He was constable in 1706 and a selectman in 1716 and again in 1744. A constable kept the peace and collected the town's rates. The selectmen were the small board that ran a New England town between town meetings.

When his father-in-law died, Job Tyler took on the leftover business of the estate. He "was administrator of the goods not previously acted upon by former administrators of his father-in-law, Colonel Dudley Bradstreet", in Salem probate case 3068. "He gave bonds in the sum of £400", a pledge that he would account for everything. In 1708 he gave a receipt to the earlier administrators.

In 1727 his father's will, proved at Salem, named him among seven sons given their portions.

Margaret died before 1736. On 1 June 1736 he married Priscilla Peabody of Boxford, "she then eighteen years of age and he sixty-one". She "died s. p.", without children. On 11 September 1747 he married Mrs. Mary Brockelbank. He made his will on 26 April 1754 and died at Rowley that year. The will was proved on 16 December 1754.
