Johann Conrad Zaiser was born about 1761, by the age given at his death, and grew up at Schwieberdingen, a Lutheran village on the Glems north west of Stuttgart in the Duchy of Wurttemberg. His father was Johann Michael Zaiser. On 5 October 1784 he married Salome at Schwieberdingen. Their children were baptized in the village church: Maria, Anna Catharina, Johann Conrad on 2 February 1791, Johann Michael on 10 January 1794, and Johann Georg.
After the Napoleonic wars, hunger and the hope of land drew thousands of Wurttemberg families east to the Black Sea, where the Russian crown was settling German farmers on the steppe of Bessarabia, taken from the Ottoman Empire in 1812. The Zaisers went with them. By 1817 Johann Conrad's son Michael was married at Alt Arzis to Magdalena Reichert, a girl from Schwieberdingen, and the family was at Alt Elft, the eleventh colony of the group, called Fère-Champenoise in Russian after a victory over Napoleon.
Johann Conrad Zaiser died at Alt Elft on 20 March 1820, aged 59, in the colony's first years.
