Johann Fridrich Tiemeijer
Johann Fridrich Tiemeijer was a varenspersoon, a seafaring man, of twenty-seven when he married at Delfzijl, the Ems port of Groningen, on 20 March 1816. His bride was Freerkje Harms Dijk, twenty-six, daughter of Harm Pieters Dijk and Derkje Ennes. His own parents were Clamer Adolph Tiemeijer, a landbouwer or farmer, and Maria Klara Tekener. The names are German, and the family very probably came across the border from East Frisia or further into Germany, though no record read so far says where.
He settled at Hoogezand in the peat colonies and worked as an arbeider, a labourer. Children were born to the couple at Delfzijl in 1816, at Groningen in 1818, at Hoogezand in 1823 and 1824 and at Kalkwijk in 1829; the son of 23 September 1824 was Pieter, who became a barge skipper. A daughter married at Sappemeer in 1851 and another in 1874. He was still named as a dagloner, a day labourer, at his son's weddings in 1847 and 1854. His death has not been found; his wife was named as a mother at a death at Kleinemeer in 1883.
