Johann Hermann Friedrich von Bokern was baptised at Ankum on 4 November 1753, a son of Friedrich Hermann von Bokern and Lucia Adelheid Bosche. He was the sixth of their seven children, and he went by Johann Friedrich.
He was a Tischlermeister, a master joiner. His son Adam and his grandson Ferdinand followed him into the trade, so the workshop ran through three generations in the one parish.
On 12 May 1783 he married Bernardina Feltmann. Their son Johann Heinrich Adam was born that November. Four more children followed: Anna Maria in October 1785, Catharina Margaretha in April 1788, Johann Friedrich in October 1790 and Margaretha Gertrud in February 1794. Catharina Margaretha died in September 1793, aged five. Margaretha Gertrud lived four days.
Bernardina died on 22 July 1794. A year later, on 20 July 1795, Johann Friedrich married Anna Gertrud Beutmann.
He died at Ankum on 31 March 1832, aged seventy eight. Thirty years later his son Adam was buried as the son of the master joiner Johann Friedrich von Bokern and his wife Bernardina, born Feltmann.
