Johann Heinrich Adam von Bokern was born at Ankum on 26 November 1783 and baptised in the parish church of Sankt Nikolaus. His parents were Johann Friedrich von Bokern and Bernardina Feltmann, who had married that May, and a Johann Heinrich von Bokern stood as his godfather. All his life he was called Adam.
He was ten when his mother died in July 1794, five months after the birth and death of a baby sister. His father married again the next summer.
Adam took up his father's trade. At his death the parish called him a Tischlermeister, a master joiner, and it gave his father the same title. On 17 September 1805 he married Maria Catharina Hömkekorf at Ankum. Their first child, Maria Elisabeth, was born that November and died at seven weeks. Seven more followed between 1807 and 1820, among them Johann Friedrich in 1807 and Gerd Ferdinand in 1811.
He outlived his wife. He also outlived his son Ferdinand, a joiner at Tütingen in the same parish, who died of consumption in April 1858 at forty six. Adam died at Ankum early in the morning of 28 November 1862, a widower, two days after his seventy ninth birthday, and was buried on 1 December. The cause written against his name is the same word written against his son's four years before: Schwindsucht, consumption.
