Johann Wilhelm Hoppe
Johann Wilhelm Hoppe was of Warstein, a small walled town in the Sauerland country of the Duchy of Westphalia, where Hoppes had been baptized since at least the 1750s. On 23 July 1780 he married Maria Elisabeth Spanke at the parish church of St. Pankratius.
Their first son was baptized on 11 February 1781 as Johann Peter Heinrich Mathias Hoppe. His godparents were Johann Peter Strake and Theresia Pilsticker, and Heinrich Spanke stood as witness, probably one of the mother's family. A second son, Johann Wilhelm Clemens, was born on 1 July 1784 and baptized the next day, with Ferdinand Hoppe as his godfather. He lived until 6 December 1865, as a note beside his baptism records.
The elder son, called Johann, married Elisabeth Müller at Warstein on 23 November 1802. Their daughter Theresia was born in October 1803, married Johann Caspar Wilhelm Hercules at Warstein in 1826, and was in St. Louis with him by 1843. A later hand beside the 1780 marriage entry gives Johann Wilhelm's death as 19 March 1825.
