Johannes Linde
Johannes Linde was a bachelor of Våle parish, in the Botne district inland from Holmestrand, when he married in 1786. The church book gives him the title Sr., Signor, used for a man of the town or official class rather than a farmer.
On 17 August 1786 he married Jomfru Marthe Dorthea Holst of Strømmen in Hurum. Jomfru was the title of an unmarried woman of the same class. The marriage is entered in the Hurum book, with the note that they were married by permission in Våle church.
Three children are known. Charlotte Cathrine was baptized at home and presented at Våle church on 6 November 1787. Her godparents carried titles, a Madame Hage, a Jomfru A. E. Holst and a captain among them. A second daughter, Margarethe Dorthea, whose first name reads like Marderine, was presented on 14 January 1790. Her godparents were farm people of Helgeland, Nordbye and Holm. A son, Johan, followed about 1792.
He died young. By February 1801 his widow had married again, and her daughter by the second husband was about seven, so Johannes probably died about 1792 or 1793. His burial has not been found, and his parents are not known. A goldsmith named Petter Rossel Linde, sixty-five, lived at Botne in 1801 and may have been his kin.
