John Case
John Case married Sarah Spencer, a daughter of William Spencer of Hartford, by about 1657, and they lived at Windsor in Connecticut. Their eldest child, Elizabeth, was born about 1658. In the spring of 1669 they moved up the Farmington River to Simsbury and settled at Weatogue. On 14 October 1669 he was appointed the first constable of Simsbury, the town officer charged with keeping the peace and serving the court's warrants.
They had ten children: Elizabeth about 1658, Mary on 22 June 1660, John on 5 November 1662, William on 5 June 1665, Samuel on 1 June 1667, Richard on 27 August 1669, Bartholomew in October 1670, Joseph on 6 April 1674, Sarah on 14 August 1676 and Abigail on 14 May 1682. Sarah died on 3 November 1691, aged fifty five. Her headstone at Simsbury calls her "SARAH CASS WIFE OF IOHN CASS SENER." He married second Elizabeth, the widow of Nathaniel Loomis of Windsor.
In 1680, when his son-in-law Joseph Lewis died, he and Samuel Willcoxson took the inventory, and the court asked him to help his widowed daughter: "John Case is desired to assist the Widow."
He made his will on 21 November 1700. It names his sons John, Samuel, Richard, Bartholomew and Joseph, and his son William, who was dead. It names his daughters Mary, Sarah Case alias Phelps, and Abigail. To "my daughter Elizabeth Tuller" he left "£10 more besides what she hath already received." His wife then living, Elizabeth, was to have five pounds a year, a sum "engaged before marriage" in a settlement made when they married. He chose as overseers "my brother Samuel Spencer of Hartford and my son John Case." Samuel Spencer was the brother of his first wife.
He died on 21 February 1703/4. His inventory was taken on 2 March 1703/4 and came to 562 pounds 5 shillings and a penny. One account gives him a birth at Aylesham in Kent on 25 July 1616 and parents William and Ruth (James) Case, without a source.
