John Haburne of Cottingham
John Haburne of Cottingham in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the earliest of the family in the Cottingham register.
The register begins in 1563 and he is in it almost at once. Seven children are christened as filius or filia Johannis between 1564 and 1577: Agnes in July 1564, Alice in September 1565, a daughter whose name survives only as the ending cisca, so Francisca, in March 1567, Ralph on 1 January 1569/70, William in February 1571/2, another whose name is broken to rbara, so Barbara, in May 1574, and Janet in July 1577. William was buried in November 1565, so there were two Williams or the christening and burial belong to different families; the page is worn.
An Agnes married William Taylor in the parish on 8 November 1568 and a Margaret married Richard Moore there the following 23 January; they are counted as his daughters, which would put their births before the register began, since the Agnes christened to him in 1564 was four in 1568. He was buried at Cottingham on 19 October 1597, entered as Jhon habron. His son Ralph lived on in the same village until 1633.
