John Henricks
John Henricks was born about 1763 at New Britain, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, according to his Find a Grave memorial. A family history of 1906 says the Hendrick ancestors "settled in Bucks or Berks county," which agrees. He married Elizabeth Snider in 1785.
Their son Peter was born in Pennsylvania in 1802, in Bedford County according to his memorial. Soon afterwards the family moved west to Ohio, with Peter still "a child in arms." John ran a grist mill and a saw mill.
He made his will on 18 March 1816 in Madison Township, then part of Muskingum County and later of Perry County, and died that spring. The will is known from a volunteer's transcription on his Find a Grave memorial, not from the county will book itself. As transcribed, it names his widow Elizabeth and eleven children: "Jacob Peggy John George Samuel Joseph Daniel Peter Elija Elizebeth Mary." His executors were "Jacob John & George Hanricks my three Eldest Sons."
John spelled the family name Henricks. His son Peter's generation wrote it Hendrick or Hendricks.
