John House
John House was the father of John W. House, born in Mississippi about 1831, and of the younger House children who were minors in 1852. His wife's name is not recorded with his. The family was in Mississippi in the early 1830s, when John W. and Joseph D. were born, and in Texas by about 1839, when a daughter, Sarah A., was born there.
He died before December 1852, and very probably years earlier. In the census of October 1850 his three children were living in Milam County in the household of Elisha McDonald and his wife Rebecca, who was 42 and born in Tennessee. Elisha McDonald had married a widow named Rebecca House in neighboring Brazos County in the 1840s.
In December 1852 the heirs at law of W. W. Lewis of Milam County, lately dead, released 107 acres to one of their number, Joel Lewis. Among them was "John W. House for himself and guardian for the minor heirs of John House dec'd." The House children's share in the Lewis estate points to a Lewis mother or grandmother, and Elisha McDonald was named among the heirs as well. The same year W. W. Lewis and Andrew Jackson Lewis had conveyed 704 acres running to a corner of the lands of John W. House and Joseph D. House.
