John Slanczka
John S. Slanczka was born on 4 March 1920 in Pennsylvania. He was a son of Frank Slanczka (1883-1936) and Louise K. Slanczka (1887-1973). According to his Find a Grave memorial, he grew up in a large family. His siblings were Rose M. Slanczka Tong (1913-2006), Telford A. Slanczka (1915-1972), Lewis L. Slanczka (1916-2001), Frank J. Slanczka (1921-1973), Anthony "Joe" Slanczka (1927-1995) and Helen L. Slanczka Korzan (1930-2020).
His wife was Gladys Ione Bartlebaugh. She was born on 19 June 1922 in Burnside, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Curt E. Bartlebaugh and Mina Vay Fetterman Bartlebaugh. The memorials name one daughter, Louise V. Slanczka Poole (1950-2024).
John's memorial marks him as a veteran but does not name his branch or term of service. The family later lived in Lorain County, Ohio. John died in Elyria on 31 August 1983, aged 63. He is buried at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio. Gladys died in Elyria on 9 March 2006 and was buried in the same cemetery.
