Jonas Ingham "emigrated from England to New England in 1705," by a 1910 biography of his great-grandson Samuel D. Ingham. He "probably came from Yorkshire," the same book says, and was "a member of the Society of Friends," a Quaker, and "by trade a fuller." A fuller finished woollen cloth by beating it in water until it shrank and thickened.

He ran a fulling mill at Trenton, on the Delaware, and then moved across the river into Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He ended his life at Kingwood, in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, near his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Joshua Waterhouse, who was also a fuller.

He made his will in 1753. "1753, June 23 (?). Ingham, Jonas, of Kingwood, Hunterdon Co., fuller; will of. Children: Jonathan Ingham, of Solebury, Bucks Co., fuller; Mary (wife of Hezekiah Bye, of Solebury, yeoman); Elizabeth (wife of Joshua Waterhouse, of Kingwood). Grandchildren, John, Jonathan and Jonas Ingham. Personal estate incl. a great Bible and other books. Executor and residuary legatee, Son-in-law, Joshua Waterhouse. ... Proved December 24, 1754." The inventory of his estate came to £294.0.9, "incl. a clock."

His son Jonathan carried on the trade at Solebury, in Bucks County. Samuel Delucenna Ingham, born in 1779, came of that line and was Secretary of the Treasury under Andrew Jackson.
