Elizabeth Ingham
Elizabeth Ingham was a daughter of Jonas Ingham, a fuller who had come from England to New England in 1705, worked a fulling mill at Trenton, and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and later at Kingwood, New Jersey. Her brother Jonathan was a fuller in Solebury, Bucks County, and her sister Mary married Hezekiah Bye of Solebury. She was born about 1721.
She married Joshua Waterhouse, a fuller from Yorkshire. Her father's will of 1753 names "Elizabeth (wife of Joshua Waterhouse, of Kingwood)" and made Joshua his executor and residuary legatee.
In 1746 she and Joshua built a farmhouse on what is now the Kingwood-Locktown Road in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County. A local history of 1957 printed its photograph over the caption "Original residence of Joshua Waterhouse and Elizabeth Ingham, erected 1746." It had never been remodelled.
She bore a large family: Ambrose in 1739, Jonas, Elizabeth, Henry in 1745, John, Mary, Alice, Hezekiah, Ingham and William, with others who died young. One son carried her surname as his given name.
Joshua died in the autumn of 1772. His will gave "Wife, Elizabeth, use of house and some goods," and added: "Son, Jonas, is to provide for his mother." That is the last record of her.
