Joseph Gaylord
Joseph Gaylord was born at Norfolk, Connecticut on 19 July 1792. He married Caroline Seymour of the Colebrook Seymours. Their daughter Mary C. was born at Norfolk on 15 August 1818 and their son Edwin at Colebrook about 1820.
In May 1825 he and his wife's brother Alva Seymour, of Colebrook, bought a farm of two hundred acres at Turin, in Lewis County, New York, from Squire Stickney and Dr. Royal Dewey, and the two families moved there. Mary C. married Harlow Shepard of Turin in 1836 and raised eleven children. By 1855 Joseph and Caroline were living in Edwin's household at Turin.
He was a church member for fifty four years. He died of typhoid fever at Greig on 1 June 1871, in the seventy ninth year of his age, and is buried in the Turin cemetery. Caroline died on 15 November 1873, aged seventy six, and lies in the same cemetery. He is the father of Edwin Gaylord and grandfather of Emma Josephine Gaylord.
