Joseph McAninch
Joseph McAninch was born in Missouri about 1847. His wife Hanna came from Illinois. The family gives their marriage as 21 July 1872 in Jasper County, in the southwest corner of Missouri.
Their daughter Laura was born in Kansas in January 1881. In August 1896, at fifteen, Laura married Emanuel Gragg at Krebs, a coal camp in the Choctaw Nation of Indian Territory.
In June 1900 the census taker found Joseph and Hanna living with Laura and her husband, then called Manuel Gragg, in Township 6 North, Range 15 and 16 of the Choctaw Nation, outside McAlester. Joseph was 53 and Hanna 43. They were entered as father-in-law and mother-in-law. Laura's first child, Sylvia, was two. Joseph worked as a miner. The mines of the McAlester district were the main reason white families were living in the Choctaw Nation at all.
By 1910 Joseph and Hanna had a home of their own again. A daughter, Annie, born about 1901, married a Head and died in 1918. Hanna died at McCurtain in 1924. When and where Joseph died is not known.
