Laura McAninch
Laura McAninch was born in Kansas in January 1881, the daughter of Joseph McAninch, a Missouri-born miner, and his wife Hanna, from Illinois. The family moved south into the coal country of the Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory.
On 23 August 1896, at Krebs, a coal camp near McAlester, Laura married Emanuel H. Gragg, called Manuel. Her marriage license gave her age as fifteen.
In June 1900 Laura was 19 and keeping house outside McAlester, in Township 6 North of the Choctaw Nation. Her husband was farming. Their daughter Sylvia was two, and Laura's own parents were living under the same roof.
Her son LeRoy was born on 31 December 1900. Manuel was born about 1904, Daymond about 1906 and Lucy about 1910. In 1910 the family was in Haskell County, Oklahoma, with all five children.
The date and place of Laura's death are not recorded. She died after the 1910 census and before about 1913, because by 1914 her husband had a second wife, Virgie, and a new daughter. Her burial place is not known. Her mother Hanna lived on near the family and died at McCurtain in 1924.
