Kristi Syversdatter
Wife of Ole Olsen, gaardmand of Lofthus in Aal, born about 1803, and named as the mother when their son was baptised on 4 April 1847. Her patronymic gives her father's name, Syver, and nothing more of him is known.
The child was christened Syvert, for that grandfather, which is the ordinary Norwegian courtesy of naming a boy after his mother's father when the father's father has already been used, and it is the only trace her side of the family leaves in the entry. That boy grew up to be Sever Olson Lofthus of Montevideo, Minnesota.
On 24 April 1858 she is entered on the family's passport for America as Kirsti Syversdatter, hustru, aged fifty-five, second on a list of seven behind her husband and ahead of Ragnild, Kristi, Ole, Syver and Lars. The clerk described her husband down to the colour of his hair and wrote nothing at all about her, which is the ordinary shape of these documents. Her birth, her death and her parents are unrecorded in every source searched, and nothing has been found of her in America.
